You’re invited into Kate’s kitchen for a real-time spring cooking class. We will go over the spring pantry and medicinal spices, prepare a simple meal together, and have some time for Q and A. Winter/Spring Transitional Self-Care
What are the important things our bodies are telling us during the winter-to-spring transition? Getting an early start on cleansing qualities is key. This is a time when mucous is on the rise, stagnation of the blood is more likely, and digestion can become a bit slow. We will discuss what, when, and how to look for signs of sinus and lung congestion, sluggish gut, and drooping energy levels. Take home tools to manage the seasonal shift will include diet, dinacharya practices, and optimized circadian rhythms to help us sail into spring.
Spring Purification Workshop
Spring is the time when the body motivates to rid excess heavy, moist, and sticky qualities. There is so much you can easily do at home to aid in this process and enjoy better circulation, less aches and pain, improved metabolism, and clear the respiratory tract. This discussion will also be applicable for those with Kapha constitution, or Kapha imbalances (stubborn weight gain, congestion, lethargy, water retention) looking for an action-plan. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start the process of creating healthy routines for the eyes, ear, sinus, throat, and lungs, this is for you. Come learn the Ayurvedic perspectives on self-care and Dinacharya, daily routines. Discover how to know which routines are most important for you, how they work, and how to get to most out of your self-care activities by practicing the right thing at the right time of day. We will discuss nasya, ear oiling, lung, throat, and sinus tonics, how and when to use a neti pot, and how to make the medicines you need at home.

What do we need to know about how winter affects the body? Learn how Ayurveda techniques help us stay healthy and feel vital in the dark, cold, and dry time of year. We will discuss the accumulation of Kapha and Vata, and how this affects mucous membranes of the sinus, throat, lungs, and intestines, as well as the skin.

Back by popular demand, Instantpot recipes #2 is for the beginning to intermediate user of the Instantpot electric pressure cooker. Expand your toolkit to include a spicy strength-building mung dal, a slightly-sweet buckwheat breakfast kichari, and the wonderful world of bean pates. Please take Instantpot #1 first if you need to learn the very basics of how to use the machine.

Pressure cooking sure does speed up things like beans, kicharis, and root veggies. Using one makes it much more convenient to cook with whole foods. I’ve been experimenting with my Instantpot mini for a year now, and there’s a few recipes I’d like to share! We will discuss how to use it wisely, how to set up cooking on a timer, and a few of my favorite pressure-cooked items: barley kichari, no-mess beet pickle, and my new go-to, garbanzo vegetable soup.
